Gear up for a breezy getaway to Mt. Hood! Hovering just above the snowline, Government Camp is an easy 1.5-hour winter drive from Portland.
You will find the Snowball House situated 1 block from downtown, on top of the best sledding hill in town (per local residents)! This is a great opportunity to meet neighbors and potential ski buddies. The Crosstown Trail is 500ft from the house, and you will find an excellent snowshoeing trail that winds behind Government Camp Village. And for the adventurous, you could even snowshoe up to Timberline Lodge and catch your breath enjoying one of their amazing hot chocolates.
Speaking of skiing, you will be pressed to find a better home base than the Snowball House. Timberline Summit Ski Resort is a 1.5-block walk to the end of the street where you can ski to the bottom of the lift. Timberline Lodge is a short drive away, with exceptional skiing and snowboarding and the historical lodge for apres ski activities. Nothing beats heading back to the house after a day of skiing, having a nice hot dinner, and then heading across the highway (a 5-minute drive) for some of the best night skiing on Mt. Hood at Ski Bowl. Check out Ski Bowl’s historic warming hut—a perfect break during an evening on the slopes. And not to miss, Mt Hood Meadows ski resort is about a 20-minute drive with some of the best runs on Mt. Hood.
